I was talking with my husband the other day, we were discussing the saying “the grass is always greener on the other side”. We agreed that this saying appears to have some truth to it. I know that we all go though tough times that make us long for change; usually something that looks a lot like our neighbor’s situation. It’s a real shame when we get stuck focusing on all the negatives of our situation. We have taken for granted the positive things that we have in our lives, of course it could always be better but isn’t that pessimistic thinking (the glass is half empty). We all have a tendency to be short sighted not thinking of the problems our neighbor is facing that might possibly be worse than what we’re dealing with. We can only see a snapshot of our neighbor’s lives and most of the time it’s the best pose they have to offer. As a Christian I believe that the enemy preys on this weakness of being shortsighted and can make us miserable, piling on the negative thoughts and shameless comparisons of our neighbor’s situation, and like little sheep we can fall prey to his tactics and have our peace and contentment robbed from us all the while not understanding what the heck is going on. Fear is the only real weapon the enemy has and the battle field he wages war on is our mind. We all know that when fear strikes that fight or flight steps in without conscious thought. Praise God for His Holy Spirit that clears up the confusion and helps us to resist the devil and enter God’s rest. I have learned that when I am no longer happy with my circumstances that something in me is out of balance. For me fear of failure wages war against my mind and I don’t know what is happening; misery sets in and I start brainstorming on how to fix my situation, it seems to be a knee jerk reaction. The problem arises when I try to take control of the problem as if I have the answer. I have learned to run to God and tell Him what is bothering me just like a child runs to his or her parents and are comforted and peace is restored. I have come to love Psalms 23 lately because it shows how dependent we are on God and what a great provider He is. He makes me lie down in green pastures He leads me beside still waters, I shall not lack. I like not having to strive and work my tail off for peace. All I have to do is submit to Him, tell Him my needs and He takes care of it. As a woman this strikes a major cord with me because I want safety and security to be cherished and cared for.

Today I learned something else while soaking in the presence of the Lord. I saw a vine with branches and remembered what Jesus said, “I am the vine and you are the branches”. I understood that life, peace and joy flow through Him “the vine”, into me the branches. I realized that the amount of nutrients that can flow though a vine is small. Then I saw a large branch and realized that the amount of nutrients that can flow through it is much greater. I understood that this relates to the anointing.

I also read Ephesians chapter 2 this morning and I related it to this vine picture and it was pretty cool, I could see it much clearer. The picture shows that the same stuff that flows through Jesus flows through us when we’re abiding in Him. “The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead now lives in me and quickens my mortal body”.

Then I understood more, the sun represents The Father, Jesus is the vine and the Word (seed), and the Holy Spirit is the rain and the wind. The soil is our heart, and the seed is the (Word), once the seed takes root we move from death to life in Jesus and become part of His body. Without the rain of the Holy Spirit we can become dry, every plant needs water. Some of the body of Christ rejects the rain of the Holy Spirit and becomes weak and dead.

Before all of this I had been thinking about how Jesus was asleep in the boat with the disciples during the storm. I’ve heard that because of the peace that indwelt Jesus, He could project it onto the circumstance. But you can’t project what you don’t have. Then I remembered that He rebuked the storm and it stopped. I then thought that everything that Jesus did is our example, so when storms come in our lives we can rebuke them. And as we abide in the Vine we will have all the peace, joy, and love that we need on the inside of us to meet the situation.

Earlier this year, I was dissatisfied with my lipstick choices and thought I would research and find out if there were any hard fast rules out there that would help me.

What I discovered was very simple; you simply choose a color that is the same tone and two shades darker than your natural lip color, or makeup color. Thin lips avoid dark colors; stick with light and bright colors to give the illusion of fuller lips.

Large lips avoid dark colors you don’t want your lips to be the only thing that people see, maintain balance.

When you go in search of that perfect color you’ll need to take a mirror along to compare it to your lip color. I’m not advising that you try it on in the store! Just hold the part of the lipstick that display’s the color near your lips so you can tell if that shade will work.

Something I’ve discovered along the way is that you can use a lip liner in the correct shade along with a tinted lip balm (make sure you blend them together) it works great and feels great. I like to hold on to my money and there are times when I just can’t bring myself to throw down several dollars on a tube of lipstick, but you’ve got to have lip balm don’t you.

Quick tip; most of the big chain drugstores offer in store rebates from time to time for different lip balm’s so you can use that money towards groceries and feel good about it.

Haley dressed up as the Pink Panther and Jason went as Guy Fieri (Food Network Star). I dressed up as a pioneer (made do with the stuff I had) thus pioneer woman emerged. One of the funny things that happened to us was when we had to run to the grocery store for a few items before dinner on Halloween.

We went to a local store where a lot of older folks go to shop; you should have seen the looks especially at Jason’s sprayed white hair… too funny. We also had a lot of fun carving pumpkins.

I wanted a classy magazine looking pumpkin while Haley and Jason went with the more traditional Jack O’ Lantern, 4 pumpkins in all.

I just listened to Toby Mac’s new song “City on our knees”

I’m blown away by the imagery that I receive by hearing that song.

It is like I’m flying through the air at dusk in a pink and purple sky wrapped in the love and presence of God. It’s AWESOME!

As I was enjoying the Lord’s presence while listening to this song I realized that if I believe that my next child is planned for us, who are we to think that something could interfere with the plan of God. Our child is planned and all I have to do is wait patiently and look for God’s direction in how to do my part in helping him get here.

As I was writing this something in me broke… I realized that the devil couldn’t stop God’s plans to raise up Moses or Jesus. No devil in hell can stop our child from coming.

And I’ve been learning lately to hear the voice of the Lord.

Therefore with something as important as a life I trust that God can get my attention at the appropriate time. I am the victor in this situation also, I am not defeated in any area because the Holy Spirit is my teacher and He is teaching me right now and I’m listening!

I will not listen to anymore lies from hell that say it’s never going to happen or are you sure that God showed you this?

No More Doubt!

I have not realized until today how much he’s been lying to me.

And I’ve been too blinded by pain to realize it.

No More!

I must encourage myself in the Lord at all times in every area.

Holy Spirit show me where doubt takes up residence in my life and help me to drive it out.

I recently finished reading a book about learning styles that was a great read and very eye opening as well as inspiring. The title of the book is Talkers, Watchers, & Doers by Cheri Fuller.

Cheri points out in her book that each child’s learning style is different. For the most part there are three styles, talkers; who learn through listening and talking about it, watchers; who learn by seeing a demonstration or picture that illustrates what is being learned, and of course the notorious doer; who is usually busy moving and seems to be distracted even though movement keeps them focused and less distracted. After diving into the strengths and weaknesses of each style she gives tips on how to get your child to grasp the information they need to learn.

The great thing about this book I think is that it reaffirms my belief that every child is bright and well capable of learning what they need to know. The problem arises when we keep trying to teach them in a way that they don’t comprehend and they begin to believe the lie that they are stupid. “Stupid” is a terrible hurdle that can take too many years to move past.

Another great point made in this book is that how well your child does in school doesn’t have a lot to do with how successful they will be in life. There have been numerous people who just got by in school and once in they’re vocation or calling they far exceed they’re peers. History has well documented this as she points out. People like Sir Winston Churchill, Louis Pasteur, and Thomas Edison. More recently Fred Epstein, John Sabolich, and Bodie Thoene.

Here is a link to the book: Talkers, Watchers, and Doers
