Confessions of a Homeschool Mom

♫ Here Comes the Son ♫

June26

I believe it is important to record the awesome things that God has done for us.

God has been so faithful to me for my whole life whether I realized it at the time or not.

I’ll begin my story when I was seventeen. I had been praying for the husband God had for me and asking for the specific things that I wanted in my mate. I wanted someone who was as passionate about God as I was, close to my height, and knows how to play the piano. Oh, did I mention that I prayed I would meet him when I was seventeen and that I wanted to be married by the time I was twenty, I know your thinking wow, what else does she want?

Well without even realizing it at the time, all of my prayers were answered. I met Jason when I was seventeen and we started dating. Before you know it we were married and I realized it was just what I had wanted. We married when I was twenty and Jason was exactly what I had asked for. He is close to my height, he plays the piano, and he is definitely passionate about his relationship with God.

To some extent I have always known what I was supposed to do with my life. I have always had the conviction that when I had children I was going to stay home with them and teach them the way God instructed me too. Jason was still working on his degree when we got married and we didn’t want anything to interfere with that. Needless to say we weren’t trying to have a baby just yet. Well, God had a different plan. Two and a half months later we discover that we’re having a baby! After we got over the shock, we decided to just do the best we can and trust God to take of the rest. I was working while Jason was going to school full time. I wanted to stay home when the baby arrived and God lined it up just perfect. Jason got a job at the university and started just in time for us to transition, God is faithful!

It’s easy to be like the children of Israel, who quickly forget what God has done for them in the face of impossible circumstances. That brings me to the next chapter of our life. When my daughter Haley turned two I thought its time to try for a brother or sister.

So when Jason and I decided to try for another we thought we had this one in the bag. I mean the first time we weren’t even trying, how hard can it be? right?

Grass Appears To Be Greener on the Other Side

January5

Grass

I was talking with my husband the other day, we were discussing the saying “the grass is always greener on the other side”. We agreed that this saying appears to have some truth to it. I know that we all go though tough times that make us long for change; usually something that looks a lot like our neighbor’s situation. It’s a real shame when we get stuck focusing on all the negatives of our situation. We have taken for granted the positive things that we have in our lives, of course it could always be better but isn’t that pessimistic thinking (the glass is half empty). We all have a tendency to be short sighted not thinking of the problems our neighbor is facing that might possibly Read the rest of this entry »

The Vine

November16

branches & vineToday I learned something else while soaking in the presence of the Lord.  I saw a vine with branches and remembered what Jesus said, “I am the vine and you are the branches”.  I understood that life, peace and joy flow through Him “the vine”, into me the branches.   I realized that the amount of nutrients that can flow though a vine is small.  Then I saw a large branch and realized that the amount of nutrients that can flow through it is much greater.  I understood that this relates to the anointing.

I also read Ephesians chapter 2 this morning and I related it to this vine picture and it was pretty cool, I could see it much clearer.  The picture shows that the same stuff that flows through Jesus flows through us when we’re abiding in Him.  “The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead now lives in me and quickens my mortal body”.

Then I understood more, the sun represents The Father, Jesus is the vine and the Word (seed), and the Holy Spirit is the rain and the wind.  The soil is our heart, and the seed is the (Word), once the seed takes root we move from death to life in Jesus and become part of His body.  Without the rain of the Holy Spirit we can become dry, every plant needs water.  Some of the body of Christ rejects the rain of the Holy Spirit and becomes weak and dead.

Before all of this I had been thinking about how Jesus was asleep in the boat with the disciples during the storm.  I’ve heard that because of the peace that indwelt Jesus, He could project it onto the circumstance.  But you can’t project what you don’t have.  Then I remembered that He rebuked the storm and it stopped.  I then thought that everything that Jesus did is our example, so when storms come in our lives we can rebuke them.  And as we abide in the Vine we will have all the peace, joy, and love that we need on the inside of us to meet the situation.
